Time for a Spring clean?

The 1st September is a huge call for celebration for us South Africans. It marks the beginning of spring, and the warm welcome back to sunny, warm days spent outdoors with family and friends. The infamous braai accompanied with beer and wine.

Let’s slow down a little though.

September is also World Heart Month, and as much as I too love a glass of wine and a nice fatty sirloin steak – as part of my quest to be kind to myself in 2017, I’m taking my hardest-working organ into consideration.

Seriously, 210 South Africans die of heart disease every single day. The likes of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity put you at risk for heart disease. You have no control over your age or genetic history, but you can take responsibility for your diet and lifestyle.

Be kind to yourself this September and give your lifestyle choices a spring clean.

Becoming physically active, maintaining a healthy weight, eating right and stopping smoking can lead to a more than 80% reduction in heart risk.

Make these small changes today, and I’m sure you can celebrate Heritage Day with a glass of wine and juicy steak...
